Clear contours. Flat colors. The style of Julian Opie, who is one of the most important contemporary British artists, is unmistakable. His works include paintings, but also sculptures, LED panels, videos and installations.

Opie's eagerness to experiment with different techniques and media, as well as his knowledge of art history, inform his work. Classical genres of representational painting such as portraits, still lifes and landscapes can be found in his work, but always with a clear reference to the present. He finds inspiration for his works in genres as diverse as that of 18th century Japanese woodblock prints and modern manga.
His works are in important collections around the world, including the Tate Modern, London, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, and the Kunsthaus Zürich.
