Virtual 9: The Construction Site

The idea to build a gallery came to us while in Cadaques, Spain in the summer of 2015. Why rent a gallery space when you have a piece of property that you could build on? Back in Germany we started planning ...

The first draft that Tobias Ruppert from KAP Architektur und Development presented was very convincing: straightforward and contemporary. The special feature of his draft: the diagonal wood siding applied at a 45 degree angle. The wood was to be untreated and should gray with time naturally - or as the wood specialists say: the wood would turn silver. We handed in our first building application in November 2015.

Many months passed until the city of Wiesbaden gave us our building permit. We used this time wisely. We found a general contractor: Ochs GmbH in Kirchberg. Our office became our rehearsal space where we tried things out for the big construction site to come. We looked at a lot of wood siding during this time. We found a landscape architekt: Dirlenbach Planungsgesellschaft mbH. We planned the lighting and planned and planned ... Finally, at the end of September 2016 we got the building permit - with the condition to inspect the property for bombs from WWII.

Our property was cleared and inspected - and, fortunately, nothing was found. Architect Niels Leineweber took over the responsibility for our project - and we speeded things up.

Since January 2nd, 2017 our construction site has been evolving. Our artists are looking forward to exhibitions - and we are too. In this last virtual exhibition we have documented what has happened up to now.
